Auto-tags let you automatically categorize invoices based on which inbox they’re submitted through.

What are auto-tags?

Auto-tags are labels automatically applied to every invoice submitted through a specific inbox. They help you:

  • Organize invoices by source
  • Filter and search more effectively
  • Route invoices to the right team
  • Generate reports by category

Setting up auto-tags

  1. Go to Inboxs in the sidebar
  2. Click on the inbox you want to configure
  3. Find the Auto-tags section
  4. Add tags (e.g., “Chicago”, “Q4-2025”, “Project-X”)
  5. Save your changes

Tag format

  • Tags are simple text labels
  • Use lowercase with hyphens for consistency
  • Keep them short and meaningful
  • Examples: chicago, marketing, priority, project-alpha

Use cases

Location-based tagging

Inbox: Chicago Office Auto-tags: chicago, midwest

Inbox: New York Office Auto-tags: new-york, east-coast

Department-based tagging

Inbox: Marketing Auto-tags: marketing, dept-mkt

Inbox: Operations Auto-tags: operations, dept-ops

Project-based tagging

Inbox: Website Redesign Auto-tags: website-redesign, 2025-projects

Viewing tags

Tags appear on invoices in:

  • Dashboard invoice rows
  • Invoice detail view
  • CSV exports

Filtering by tag

Use the search and filter features to find invoices with specific tags.
